Rao Zhihui
ABSTRACT
There have been relatively few studies in China that describe how demographic characteristics influence patient satisfaction with healthcare services and the healthcare environment. Accordingly, this study aimed to uncover the extent of difference between the demographic categories in the purview of patient satisfaction with healthcare services and the healthcare environment. Moreover, it sought to determine the correlation between the respondents’ satisfaction with healthcare services and the healthcare environment.
This study investigated the satisfaction levels of 410 patients at Z Community Health Center in Shenzhen City, focusing on the relationship between socio-demographic characteristics and patient satisfaction. The research also aimed to determine the correlation between respondents' satisfaction with healthcare services and the healthcare environment. The results showed “very high” satisfaction levels with healthcare services (4.53) and the healthcare environment (4.51). Significant differences in satisfaction levels for healthcare services were found among different age groups (p = .01) and educational attainment levels (p = <.0001). A similar trend was observed for differences in healthcare environment satisfaction, with significant variations among age groups (p = .02) and educational attainment levels (p = <.0001).
The study also found a strong correlation between satisfaction with healthcare services and the healthcare environment (p = <.000001) in community health centers, emphasizing the importance of improving the medical environment to enhance patient satisfaction with medical services. The study suggests that community health centers should offer tailored health services for patients based on age groups and educational backgrounds.
